Difference between Octa Core, Quad Core and Dual Core processors for Mobile Phones

As Android continues its monopoly in the mobile OS market, there are millions of peoples who likes android enabled mobile devices for their entertainment.  This article explains the difference between dual core and quad core processors in android enabled mobile devices.  Many of us purchase android phones with general specifications in mind, like processor power, RAM, graphics quality, 3G, Internet and many more.

In today’s market we have many types of processors available for mobile devices.  But here in this article i mention two most preferable and popular processors with which user can experience HD quality graphics, high power RAM, advance application interface and many more.  Dual core and Quad core processors are very efficient in the development of powerful android phones.  So let’s understand what is dual core and quad core processor and how both processors are different in terms of their efficiency.

Depends on purpose,I mean for what you are going to use it -
  • Domestic Purpose & decent gaming :- Dual Core
  • Fairly large data processing,Graphics Designing & Hard core Gaming :- Quad core
  • Huge data processing(Workstation,Server) & Optimal,superior Gaming :- Octa core
The number of cores is only one parameter. How is the PC being used, and which quad core?
Obviously, the dual core will be lower than the 8 core, which, if AMD FX-8___ is not a true 8 core because the cores share resources. It is more of an enhanced 4 core.
An Intel Core i5-4670 @ 3.40GHz scores passmark 7599 and is a great gaming CPU as only Crysis-3 makes use of more than 4 cores. It will outperform in gaming, as a quad core, any AMD CPU including the FX-8350 "8 core".
An FX-8100 "8-core" AMD FX-8100 Eight-Core Passmark: 6174
Underperforms the Intel 4 core in all respects, including gaming or any other PC function.
You need to state WHICH 4 core, 2 core, or 8 core you mean.
Even clock speed is not the determining factor.
Note: in general applications, the higher number of cores is better. It is not an absolute truth though.

Octa Core Processor
With eight completely independent cores, the MediaTek MT6592 processor combines amazing performance with outstanding energy efficiency. Spreading the load over eight cores means MT6592 runs even the most demanding Android apps without breaking a sweat, while using just one core for lightweight tasks and powering down the rest stretches battery life to the max.
Energy-efficient cores means greater power savings compared to other leading smartphone processors. When compared to competition, MT6592 uses less battery in different applications.
Consumes only 40% of the power with Wi-Fi web browsing
Consumes only 65% of the power for Full HD video recording
Consumes only 60% of the power with all eight cores active
Consumes only 50% of the power for Full HD video playback

Quad Core Processor
A quad core processor is a chip with four independent units called cores. It reads and executes CPU instructions such as Move data, Add data etc.  The individual cores in quad core processor can run multiple instructions at same time.  Quad core processor have benefits over dual core processors such as:
  • Faster multitasking
  • Faster web page load times
  • HD quality gaming
  • Low power consumption
  • High performance for complex applications
Many mobile companies implements quad core processors on their devices to promote their smartphones in the market.  Quad core processors is twice as fast as a dual-core processor.  Recently Intel introduced Core 2 Extreme quad core mobile processor which has four cores processing multiple threads and multiple tasks at blistering speeds.

Note:  Processor speed depends on the user behavior while accessing smartphones.

Dual Core Processor

The dual core processor has two separates cores on the same die, each with its own cache.  It has two microprocessor in one.  Many manufacturers launches dual core processors in many android devices.  A dual-core processor chip can often provide better performance than a traditional single-core processor.  But Some dual-core chips provide better performance at the expense of battery life, compared to quad-core chips. The advantage of going dual-core in today’s phones is that it offers more capability for multitasking and video.

Note:  Read technical specifications before buying any smartphones & Always Close any unnecessary  application on your smartphones to function it properly.
